10 benefits of going on a yoga retreat
After all we’ve experienced over the first part of the year, there’s an overwhelming desire to create a change of scenery. Given air travel is limited at present, a lot of us are turning to trips within a reasonable distance to home. If you’ve ever thought about attending a yoga retreat, now is the perfect time. It's natural to feel apprehensions about the unknown of a yoga retreat, so here’s a list of benefits and what you can expect.
1. A change of scenery
After many months at working, living and surviving at home, it’s time to get out! Yoga retreat venues are often located in beautiful surrounds, and that’s just the ticket for a lot of us right now.
2. Deepen your yoga practice
In our day-to-day lives, we’re often running to the studio to make that practice, or rushing back home to cook dinner or pick up the kids from school. The beauty of a yoga retreat is the ability to take our time, to delve deep and explore the practice in ways we don’t normally have the time for.
3. A digital detox
With so many of us working from home at present, screen fatigue is real, and it’s draining. Breaking routine for a few days or even a week, gives us a chance to put the phone or laptop down, read that book we’ve been meaning to get through and reconnecting with our surrounds.
4. Meeting new friends
A big draw card for many is meeting people from all walks of life and a common interest in yoga and meditation. I’ve had participants on my retreats who have forged great friendships, still going strong to this day.
5. The food, oh the food!
Doesn’t need any introduction, but you’re always in for a treat when it comes to food on a retreat. Whether its delicious Greek salads and Mediterranean feasts, to delicious seasonal food in the English countryside, you’ll never go hungry.
6. Rest, relax and recharge
Those of us living in London are used to a fast-paced way of living, always on the go. A yoga retreat offers the balance of slowing down, not rushing to appointments and taking the time to recharge our batteries.
7. Connect with nature
Our need to connect with the natural world is important, especially for us urban dwellers. Whether it’s a swim in the ocean or a walk in the woods, a yoga retreat offers time away from the noise of city life, and a space to find natural calmness.
8. Return home refreshed
Have you been on a holiday and come home feeling like you need another one? A yoga retreat often has the knack of recharging weary batteries - so it’s a good shout.
9. It’s a unique experience
Yoga retreats create a special energy, blending a mix of mindfulness, yoga practices, good food, new faces and a great time.
10. You deserve it
It’s been a tough first half of the year for all of us. Treat yourself to a bit of R&R, some time away from home and a chance to reconnect with yourself, nature and other likeminded people.
